"Woyzeck" – the season's final premiere at the GERMAN THEATRE
The premiere of the play "Woyzeck" by Georg Büchner will hit the limelight on Thursday, June 19th, from 7 p.m., at the Military Circle (1 Libertăţii Square). The second performance is scheduled on Friday, June 20th, from 7 p.m., in the same location.

Born in 1813 in Goddelau, Georg Büchner died when he was only 23, killed by a typhus infection. During his short life, he wrote several pieces that became reference works in the German literature: "Danton's Death", "Lenz", "Leonce and Lena", "Woyzeck". Begun in 1837, "Woyzeck" could no longer be brought to an end by its author. At first, the dramatic fragment fell into oblivion, its staging as a world premiere taking place no later than 1913 at Residenztheater München. Since that date, the play came to be staged numerous times, becoming one of the most influential and frequently performed plays of the German literature.

The staging of "Woyzeck" will be the final premiere of the 2007 – 2008 season at the German State Theatre in Timişoara.

The play is directed by German actor Georg Peetz, known to the Romanian audience for parts such as Cymbeline, in Shakespeare's "Cymbeline", directed by Alexander Hausvater (2004), Jonathan Jeremiah Peachum, in "The Threepenny Opera" by Brecht & Weill, stage directed by Victor Ioan Frunză (2006) or Andrei Vukov, in "Judgment" by Collins, directed by Alexander Hausvater (2007). Georg Peetz designed the set, while the costumes are Carmen Gaza's creation, the production dramaturgy is ensured by Alina Mazilu, Lucian Moga designed the lighting, and the musical arrangements were made by Valentina Peetz. The cast includes actors Daniel Ghidel, Andrea Nistor, Ioana Iacob, Christine Cizmaş and Radu Miodrag Vulpe.

The project benefits from the support of Stuttgart Institute for Foreign Relations and Timişoara City Council.

The performance is translated into Romanian via headsets.
